Day 07: Calicut – Cochin

The tour packages are usually “Land Only” and do not include international flights. Travel insurance is compulsory on all of our journeys. Speak to us or your travel agent about comprehensive insurance to cover your travel arrangements. Our elderly travellers who are aged 70 years or more, or with a per-existing condition that affects their fitness to travel or any medical dietary requirement, must be advised at the time of booking. Selecting Your Holiday Type
Most of our journeys are suited to those with normal fitness and mobility levels. To assist you in choosing a journey best for you we have graded our tours;
Easy Paced: These programs are set at a comfortable pace. Walking and climbing of stairs involved is generally in and around major tourist attractions though you may require walking from road till boat jetty while embarking or disembarking boats.
Moderate: These tours are not strenuous but you will require good amount of fitness as they may include days with long periods of walking or soft trekking, climbing of stairs, embarking and disembarking boats and where longer distances may be travelled by uneven roads.
Adventurous: These refer to programs where your physical fitness needs to be on highest level. Trekking, cycling, climbing, walking and more adventurous activities may be included.
Comfort is our first priority. All our coaches are air-conditioned with push back seats. We even offer 30-35 seater coach when only 16 people are in a group, providing everyone a window seats. Our train journeys in air-conditioning sleeper class where bedding is provided by the train attendant and itineraries that include domestic flight to connect destination we use economy class.

India: Visa is required for all foreign nationals.
Apply online for a Pre-Approval at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/tvoa.html .The online application should be submitted a minimum of 4 days in advance and a maximum of 30days of the proposed date of travel. TVOA links may also be found in websites of Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, Bureau of Immigration, Incredible India etc.
As of 27 Nov 2014 nationals and passport holder of 34 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Japan, Finland, Luxem Bourg, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia and Myanmar to name a few, can avail a Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) facility upon disembarking at international airports Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Goa, Hyderabad, Kochi and Trivandrum only. You will require to pay fees along with require documentation and is subject to verification and satisfaction of the Immigration. Please contact High Commission of India for updated information.
Sri Lanka: Every tourist visiting Sri Lanka required visa prior to departure. Visa must be obtained atleast 01 months prior to arrival in Sri Lanka by visiting www.eta.gov.lk The Tourist visa is valid for stay within 30 days. Passport must be valid for at least six months before you commence travel to Sri Lanka. Fee will apply.
Nepal: Visa is required for all foreign nationalities and the best way to apply for visa is from the Royal Nepalese diplomatic missions in your home country. Tourist Visa also can be obtained on arrival. Passport must be valid for at least six months before you commence travel in Nepal. Fee will apply.
Bhutan: All foreign nationals require visa for Bhutan.
Visa can be arranged by TOTAL HOLIDAY OPTIONS. To process this we require clear readable colour copy of passport (page containing passport no and face picture in JPEG or PDF format) and current colour passport photograph and at least 30 days prior to date of entry into Bhutan. Remaining validity of passport should be at least 6 months from the date of exit from Bhutan.
Tourism Council of Bhutan issues visa clearance letter closer to travelling date which we email or fax you or your local travel agent. Travellers are required to produce aforesaid visa clearance copy at the time of check-in for their flights while those entering Bhutan by surface via Phuentsholing or Samdrup Jonkhar, they are required to produce this Visa Clearance letter at the Immigration counter. Actual visa is stamped at passport on arrival in Bhutan.
Visa only service is not offered in Bhutan, you would have to book a service tour package from TOTAL HOLIDAY OPTIONS that includes accommodation, guided tours, transfers etc
Myanmar: Visa is required for all nationalities.

Start your morning with a trip to Mahabalipuram also know as Mamallapuram - Its enviable position on the Coromandel Coast, facing the Bay of Bengal, guarantees that this is a popular place to stay. Spend time on the white-sand beach shaded by casuarina trees and make sure you allow yourself time to explore this wonderful open-air museum, much of which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arjuna's Penance -Nothing can prepare you for the wonderful bas-reliefs covering two huge boulders in exquisite detail, dating from the 7th century. Spend time admiring the detail and wonder why the temples are incomplete and were never consecrated. Shore Temple; Relish the delightful seaside location, overlooking the Bay of Bengal, and landscaped gardens. Experience South Indian thali meals is served in Banana leaf, it is a well balanced meal with dishes that include rice, dal, vegetables, flat breads, yoghurt, chutney, pickle, papad and a sweet dish. Day 03: Chennai – Kachipuram –Chennai - Bangalore
Today we depart from Hotel and Drive to the impressive temple town of Kanchipuram covering a distance of 60 kms in approx 1.5 hour. Known as the Golden City of a Thousand Temples, it is one of the oldest towns in India. It is famous for both its temples and its hand-woven silks. Most of the temples are well preserved till date, which were built during 7th and 8th century AD. The prominent temples of Kanchipuram are Ekambareshwar Temple, Kamakshi Temple etc. Kanchipuram silk is famous all over the world. Visit the local homes of the weavers and watch them create magic out of silk thread into saris. Return to Chennai to catch a flight to Bangalore with overnight in Bangalore. (B,L,D)
Day 04: Bangalore - Mysore
Begin with a visit to the botanical gardens at Lal Bagh conceived and laid out by Sultan Hyder Ali in 1760. His son, Tipu, expanded the gardens further planting exotic plants from Persia, Kabul, Turkey, and Mauritius over 96 hectares. Highlights include the Lawn Clock and the British-built glasshouse, structurally based on London's Crystal Palace and then drive to Mysore. You will be charmed by the faded grandeur of Mysore, the former capital of the much loved Wodeyars dynasty who reigned from the 16th century. Evening enjoy an exclusively designed menu by Chef that features traditional Karnataka cuisine, dinner will be a love of labour, full of nostalgic memories-a very special treat indeed. Day 05: Mysore
Morning we visit Devaraj Market - Most colourful local market, Mysore Palace -You can't fail to be impressed by this vast palace, with its turrets, domes and arches and an opulent interior with intricately carved doors and ceilings. Wander through the luxuriously furnished rooms and admire this treasure trove of art appreciated from all over the world. Evening Head up Chamundi Hill for panoramic views of the city spread out below before exploring the exquisite hilltop temple dedicated to the goddess, Chamundi. This evening enjoy Mughlai food at Olive garden (windflower). It is famous for the exotic use of spices, dried fruit and nuts. Day 06: Mysore - Calicut
Travel to Calicut and visit Beypore, a prominent port and fishing harbour of ancient Kerala. Visit the fish markets with Chef who will point out the many varieties of seafood caught fresh daily off these shores and the special ways the locals prepare it for their families. Visit the Boat yards in Beypore, which have been building vessels since early centuries for legendary seamen. Tonight enjoy a special dinner featuring Moppilla Cuisine -The cuisine of Kerala Muslims, well known for its delicate blend of spiciness and subtle mix of ingredients that add a touch of the exotic! Like any regional cuisines, Mappilas have also developed a cuisine that makes the best use of locally available ingredients. Day 07: Calicut – Cochin
Today we drive to Cochin with its wealth of historical associations and its beautiful setting on a cluster of islands and narrow peninsulas; the fascinating city of Cochin perfectly reflects the eclecticism of Kerala. Cochin now renamed Kochi, boasts one of the finest natural harbours on the Arabian Sea coast and has been a port of call for foreign traders from very early times. This evening watch a performance of the Kathakali dance, where characters use larger than life gestures and dramatic make up. Day 08: Cochin
After breakfast we visit the Jewish Synagogue built in 1568. Scrolls of the Old Testament and a number of copper plates inscribed in Hebrew script are preserved here. Continue on to visit St. Francis Church, the oldest church constructed by the Europeans in India. Also visit the Mattancherry Palace, built by the Portuguese in 1555. Their dresses, turbans and palanquins and murals from Hindu mythology are all beautiful and worth seeing. Culminate the tour at Fort Kochi, which is said to be the oldest European settlement in India. This evening is free to explore a local restaurant in town or visit the famous beach with the Chinese fishing nets. (B,L,D)
Day 09: Cochin – Alleppey
After breakfast travel to Alleppey, at the heart of the backwaters of Kerala. Arrive at these beautiful palm fringed network of canals to board the “Kettuvalams”, traditional rice boats now converted into deluxe accommodation. It is no wonder that Alleppey has been called the Venice of the East. The gorgeous backwaters support a vibrant village life along the tropical shoreline. The land is lush with coconut palms and green rice fields.
By noon we’ll board our Private Houseboat for lunch. In the evening if you wish you can accompany the houseboat staff to one of the village fish markets, where you can put to test your bargaining skills for purchasing the fresh water prawns, which can later be cooked for you to have it for dinner. Day 10: House Boat – Alleppey – Thekkady
After breakfast, disembark the houseboat at Alleppey & travel to Thekkday (also known as Periyar), South India’s most popular wildlife sanctuary. It is home to bison, wild elephant, boar, languor, the great Indian tiger and many more wildlife species. The sanctuary is spread over an area of about 777 sq km and comprises of a thick evergreen forest with exotic wild life. On arrival check in at the homestay and after some relaxation proceed for a boat cruise on the Lake Periyar, which show cases a kaleidoscope of activities that incur around the lake and jungle. Evergreen moist deciduous forests and savannah grass lands characterise Periyar. Stay two nights at Thekkady homestay. (B,L,D)
Day 11: Thekkady
After breakfast proceed to view the rare species grown at home with Cirac and Dolly the host, growing cardamom, pepper, coffee, and Vinella etc. Walk amidst the palette displaying variant shades of green. It is believed that the spice trade dates back three thousand years in Kerala and many spices find their home here. This evening take a Cooking Class at home with Dolly who is a wonderful cook, she teaches guests the nuance of traditional Kerala recipes.
